Taking on arch rival Northview HS, our Lady Saints had something to prove. Building up to this dual, the lady saints proved to be a contender for the league title as they took down each opponent one by one. Heading into the dual, both teams entered with a 4-0 record and eyes set on the prize. With the two teams going toe to toe each showcasing their talents, the crowd was treated with a back and forth battle. Cianna Riley and Ciara Boyd both started the night out with 2 pins setting the tone. Caley Ortiz made her mark as she pinned her opponent giving a 12 point lead. After relinquishing the lead going into the last 2 weight classes, down 42-30, we had to pull off two pins in order to tie it up. At 160 pound weight class junior Janiece Alcocer proved to much for her opponent and got the pin. Down 42-36 we needed senior Jamileh Munoz to also defeat her opponent by pinfall. Up 3-1 in the 3rd period, with 35 seconds left in the match, Munoz locked on to her opponent. The crowd was going back and forth when Munoz was pulled down to her knees and her opponents team and fans starting screaming as they felt their wrestler was in control. After a few seconds, Jamileh readjusted her position and pulled her opponent under and got the pin! This tied it up 42-42 leaving it into the hands of the referees criteria. After it was all said and done, we came out as League CHAMPS! This is the first time the lady saints have won league!
