Saturday our lady saints took to the mat at the inaugural Gahr JV girls duals. With having to give up 2 weight classes, our saints stepped on the mat and gave it their all with the end result of 5th place out of 10 teams. Leading the team with 5 wins, all coming by the way of pins, Cece Boyd ran the table and placed first. Cece has shown major improvement and determination from last season to now and looks to make her mark this season. Alongside Cece was 1st year wrestler Sunni Latu whom ran through her competition pinning all 3 opponents settling for 1st place as well. Sunni has grown tremendously in a short amount of time and shows everyday how much she wants to grow even more. Our coaching staff has taken notice of what Sunni has already accomplished and looks to be a force to be reckoned with this year. First year wrestlers Soje Librero and Jolene Pichay also walked away with some hardware as they both placed 3rd, both doing amazing on the mat. We see great things happening for these first year wrestlers as well as the rest of our lady saints. Next up is our cross town rival dual versus Bonita HS on Thursday night, come cheer us on as we fight for bragging rights!

Yesterday our Lady Saints opened up season at Savanna HS in the 15th Annual Rebel Rumble. Traveling with a very young team, expectations were met and even more as our young ladies battled to a 2 way tie for 4th place in the team race, just missing top 3 by 12 points. First time wrestlers Jolene Pichay & Soje Librero both seniors, started out the night winning their first ever matches, gaining recognition by opposing coaches and wrestlers. Freshmen first year wrestlers Caley Ortiz & Kaili Bernardino also made their mark by winning a couple matches each. Returning varsity wrestlers and captains Ciara Boyd and Tatiana Guevara both showed how much they have improved from last season and turning in 3rd place finishes each in their respective weight classes. Lastly, stealing the show was our other team captain Tiki Jaime by coming away with an unbelievable performance in the finals. After tweaking her elbow, she yelled for the trainer to tape her up so she could continue. Gutting it out, she proved too much for her opponent and walked away with the championship.

Overall, our Lady Saints went in with the mentality that they were there to wrestle regardless of winning or losing and to remain humble throughout the tournament. Each one of them showed the sportsmanship and athleticism each match with the emphasis on learning as they wrestled. The coaching staff was very proud of each and every wrestler and look forward to the rest of the season!

Our young ladies have been working extremely hard in hopes of becoming the #1 varsity wrestler, Valle Vista League Champion, CIF Regionals Champion, CIF SS Finals Champion and CIF State Champion. Along the way, we have multiple tournaments and dual meets to compete in and look to walk away with as much hardware as possible.
